Lord will provide
“Jehovah Jireh or Yahweh Yireh”…… God as our ‘Provider”.
This name was called by Abraham at a location (a place in the land of Moriah), of binding of Isaac for a burnt offering to God , by Abraham (as asked by God to test Abraham’s faith).
Today is Good Friday (30th March 2018). And as I was worshipping, I was reminded by my Lord how mightily and wonderfully He saved me all these years. How beautifully He blessed and provided for me all these years. His goodness and kindness has been beyond imagination. . How do I thank Him?
He is my provider. He always will be.. He provides for all.
Abraham called the name of a place as ‘The Lord Will Provide” , Reason? He believed in his heart, that God is a just God. He knew that in Isaac his posterity shall be called (Romans 9:7), and God is not a liar ., He definitely will provide for a burnt offering, instead of Isaac.
Genesis 22 :5 records, that Abraham instructed his servants to “settle down here and stay with the donkey, and I and the young man will go yonder and worship and come again to you”.
This doesn’t mean that Abraham was lying or deceiving his servants. Rather it shows Abraham’s immense faith in His God. It also shows how obedient he was in walking with God, that he was ready to sacrifice his only son of old age.

Surely enough God provided for the burnt offering. Genesis 22:13, “a ram was caught in a thicket by his horns”.
Abraham was a prophet too. Genesis 20:7, “ …..restore to the man his wife, for he is prophet , and he will pray for you and you will live”. So what Abraham said in Genesis 22:5, it was a prophesy. He had seen God in action. He had seen God providing for Him and his family. He knew everything he had was because of God .
Genesis 21:22, “….God is with you in everything you do”.
Genesis 17:5-6, “……your name shall be Abraham(father of a multitude) for I have made you the father of many nations”.
Genesis 15:1, “…..I am your shield your abundant compensation, and your reward shall be exceedingly great”. Abraham was a very wealthy man. Whatever He did, He prospered. Wherever he went, He found favour. God blessed him abundantly. God was his provider.
Animal sacrifice has been found as an important theme throughout the Old Testament….
Cain and Abel offered sacrifices to God. Cain’s wasn’t accepted because it was fruits. Abel’s was firstborn of the flock. Shedding of blood was important and significant. Blood is a powerful element, because life is in blood (Leviticus 17:11).
Circumcision (shedding of blood), was required for entering into a covenant (Genesis 17:10-12).
Seeing things from God’s point of view, anything that was covered by blood, was pure and clean in His eyes”.
When initially I came in faith, I would try and understand what the book of Genesis was leading to. For a beginner and coming from a different faith, it wasn’t easy to understand the significance of such a great sacrifice. Likewise it’s not easy for others to understand why things happened in history, the way they happened.
Fortunately, under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit, I leant much. And I do understand the ones who have been called and will be called in later generations, will have the same question that I had. Today I encounter a question, almost on a daily basis, “Why was Jesus crucified?”

So here is an attempt for beginners to understand……The purpose of the death of the greatest History maker, Jesus”.
In Genesis 22:17-18, God blessed Abraham like this, “In blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore. Your Seed (Heir) will possess the gate of His enemies, (Hebrews 6:13, 14, 11:12). And in your seed (Christ) shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and by Him bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice(Acts 3;25, Galatians 3:16, Genesis 12:2-3, 28:14). Abraham’s walk of faith and obedience was richly rewarded by God for generations.
As explained above, in God’s sight, anything that is covered by blood, has life, and is pure and clean and acceptable. But the offering has to be spotless, sinless and blameless in God’s sight. (See Leviticus 1-7)

Romans 3:23-25, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Whom God has set forth as a propitiation (atoning sacrifice) by HIS BLOOD, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed”
Jehovah Jireh Provided, sinless, spotless lamb for offering to Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21, “ God made Him( Jesus Christ) who knew no sin, to be sin for us.
That’s what is Amazing Grace”.
For only God can provide.
When we walk in faith and obedience, just as God provided for Abraham in his days, will provide for you in your days.
Prayer: “O Lord, teach me to do your will, fill me with your Divine Spirit and open my mind to understand and pay heed to Your counsel. Change the inclinations of my heart and help me to learn your ways and help me to walk with You in obedience , just the way Abraham walked with you “, Amen.
