Bride of Christ
When Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the Lord Almighty God, walk and live habitually before Me and be perfect (blameless, wholehearted, complete). And I will make My covenant between Me and you and will multiply you exceedingly. You shall be the Father of many nations. Nor shall your name any longer be Abram but your name shall be Abraham ( Father of a multitude), for I have made you the father of many nations.” (Genesis 17:1-5).
Abraham was extremely fruitful, blessed and found favour everywhere he went, exactly as promised by God.
(Shash Grewal(Shashwati) is a philanthropist and a social worker, who tries to reach out to hurting hearts with scriptural blessings and kindness.)
Isaac was the child of promise and covenant, between God and Abraham. Isaac shared his father’s (Abraham) confidence in God’s promise. His very existence was because of God’s promise to Abraham. He walked in reverence fear of the Lord habitually.

When Abraham was well advanced in his age, naturally his concern was Isaac’s marriage . He had already lost Sarah (his wife) and buried her in Hebron. (Genesis 23:19). So entire responsibility of choosing a right bride for Isaac, was on Abraham. Abraham’s choice of the right girl for Isaac, will also be the genesis for fulfilment of another promise of God, “ In your seed (Christ) shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and (by Him) bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice” (Gen 12:2-3, Galatians 3:16)
Genesis 24:1-14, Abraham said to his eldest servant of his house Eliezer of Damascus , who ruled over all that he had, I beg of you, put your hand under my thigh (Genesis 15:2), and swear by the God of heaven and earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I have settled. But you will go to my country and to my relatives and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
Genesis 24:12, as Eliezer journeyed to the land of Mesopotamia ( between the Tigris and Euphrates ), to the city of Nahor (Abraham’s brother), he said “Oh Lord, God of my master Abraham, I pray You, cause me to meet with good success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham”.
While reading this chapter, I was thanking God for how beautifully the story was unfolding. This entire chapter is highly illustrative of the Triune Godhead in action. Here God the Father is seeking a bride for His Son( Christ), and sends The Holy Spirit , as His representative, to search for the right candidate , who will come ‘willingly’ to fill that position. And how earnest the Holy Spirit is, in looking for the right candidate and how determined he is in finishing the task his master (God the Father) had entrusted him with. God the Father, trusted the Holy Spirit that He will succeed in choosing the ‘willing soul’ for his son (God the Son) and make a right decision on behalf of Him.
God wants a ‘willing soul’. He doesn’t want to force his children to follow Him. He wants them to understand His heart and His love for them and come to Him willingly.
The episode also reflects the selfless heart of the Holy Spirit. All his concern is how to win the right soul, to be the bride of Christ’. He never did things of his own. He did and acted as per his master’s plan. He was faithful. He prayed. “ Oh Lord, God of my master Abraham, see that I stand here by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming to draw water. Let it so be that the girl to whom I say, I pray you, let down your jar that I may drink, and she replies Drink, and I will give your camels drink also, let her be the one whom You have selected and appointed and indicated for Your servant Isaac, and by this I shall know that You have shown kindness and faithfulness to my master: (Genesis 24:13-14). Since he started his mission with prayer and faithfulness in his heart, God did exactly as he requested. Entire effort was easy and fell into place.
Then comes the third person of the Triune Godhead, the Son. The chapter reveals the gentleness and tenderness of the heart of the Son, who comes to claim His bride. Genesis 24:67, “…….Isaac brought her into his mother’s tent, and took her as his wife and loved her. Isaac was comforted….”
Rebekah played a major part too. In the entire story. She represents a worthy ‘willing soul’., whom Christ, the bridegroom, comes to claim.
(Shash Grewal (Shashwati) is a “Scriptural Motivational Writer, who explain’s life’s, common principles, in a very lucid manner so that the younger generation can relate to the solutions, She offers through her writing, to all the problems they face on a daily basis.)
Genesis 24:46 shows, how quickly and willingly she offered water. She was kind not only to an old man who came from far covering much distance, but also to the animals. She was eager to serve them with food ( see Genesis 24:25) {water has a great significance in Bible, as a cleansing agent, (“that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by washing of water with the word so that he might present the church to himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:26-27)}.
Then again in Genesis 24:58 says when Rebekah’s brother and mother asked her if she would go with the man, she said, “I will go”( which means, she will have to leave behind her comfort zone, and be willing and ready to move to a place where God asks her to ). That’s how a willing heart should be, leave behind everything and simply follow Christ.
Luke 9:62 says, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God”
In the New Testament, Jesus spoke much in parables.
Mathew 13:45-46, “Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Luke 18-17, “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
Bride of Christ ( body of Christ) has to be pure (one church with end time people, honest seekers of truth, a church betrothed to Christ)

In Revelation 19:7-9, “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb is, come, and His wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And He with unto me, write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.”
Our guide and great Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, does not want or win an unwilling soul, but ‘whosoever will’.
Will You?
