THE HOLY SPIRIT
It is not possible to write the vastness and uniqueness of Holy Spirit’s nature in a small blog, but a small effort to help you understand how much God loves us, to have given us such a beautiful gift freely, to help us in our weakness, prayerlessness , and despair.
The third person of the Trinity, the Holy Ghost. The Triune God manifested in three forms, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. That’s what the Holy Bible says.
But What do we understand about His persona? Who do we exactly refer to when we speak of ‘The Holy Spirit”? Have we really understood His person?
Bible has much to say about the Holy Spirit. To begin with , book of Ephesians 4:30 says, “and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God(shows He has feelings), with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. “ It means Holy Spirit is God. He is the third member of Godhead. Coequal with God the Father and God the Son.
He is a PERSON. A DIVINE BEING. HE IS GOD.
To be able to understand the Holy Spirit in truth, we have to understand all the characteristics of His being.
Holy Spirit possesses all the characteristics of God.
He is eternal in nature. (Heb 9:14)
He is Omnipresent (Psalm 139:7-10). He is capable of being everywhere.
He is Omniscient (1 Corinthians 2:10, ). He knows all things.
He is Omnipotent (Luke 1:35). Has the power to do anything.
Mathew 12:31 says , Jesus Himself said, “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.”
Mathew 28:19 records, Jesus commanded all His disciples saying, “Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them into the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the HOLY SPIRIT.
This shows He is on equal status as the Father and the Son. He has great authority, power and wisdom. He is THE ONE WHO CONVICTS THE WORLD OF ITS SINS.
John 16:8, “and when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming Judgement.
In the book of Acts 1:4 ( The church), the apostles were given specific directions. Acts 1:2 , “ Until the day when Jesus ascended, after He through the HOLY SPIRIT had instructed and commanded the apostles (special messengers) whom He had chosen. He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for WHAT THE FATHER HAD PROMISED, OF WHICH YOU HAVE HEARD ME SPEAK” (John 14:16, 26, 15:26) For John baptised with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptised with the HOLY SPIRIT (reveals the power He brings in life with His presence).
Acts 1:8 , “ But you shall receive power ( ability, efficiency, might and wisdom) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” ( Without the lead and might of the Holy Spirit, we are incapable of witnessing for Lord).

We have to be sensitive, if we genuinely want to understand the purpose and persona of The Holy Spirit.

He can feel grief(Eph 4:30)
He is a comforter who encourages and strengthens during times of weakness (Acts 9:31)
He can think and helps a believer to think in line with His, that leads to life and peace(Romans 8:6)
He can pray (Romans 8:26)
He can speak and guides according to God’s will.( Acts 13:2)
He is a great teacher (John 14:26)
He exercises His will and a just distributor of Spiritual gifts to all as He determines right (1 Cor 12:11)
He can work miracles (Acts 19:6)
And He is a helper in our weaknesses and intercedes on our behalf (Romans 8:26).
He is a “GIFT” given to us freely by God. But we have to be ‘willing’ to receive Him.
We have to be ‘filled’ with the Holy spirit, which begins with initial infilling, then subsequent experiences of being filled and then on, it’s an ongoing process.
On the day of Pentecost, “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).
Paul spoke in Ephesians 5:18, “Be continuously filled with the Spirit, we need to drink daily from the source of supply. “
John 6:63, “ It is the Spirit Who gives life ( life giver), the flesh conveys no benefit whatever (there is no profit in it). The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are Spirit and life. “ Holy Spirit cleanses us as a cleansing fire, convicts us, helps us in our weaknesses and intercedes on behalf of us with wordless groans (Romans 8:26)
As believers in Jesus Christ, we are called upon to offer our bodies as ‘living sacrifices’ (Romans 12:1), engulfed by the divine gift, the inextinguishable fire of the Holy Spirit.
Experiencing infilling of Holy Spirit is beautiful. But we have to be interested ONLY IN BIBLICAL EXPERIENCE OF HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM, and not get confused with man’s ideas of baptism. Gift of Salvation (being born again), is the first work of the HOLY SPIRIT. His continual guidance and inner promptings are for the purpose of empowering us for Holy living and service, which in our own strength is absolutely impossible. He is the ONE WHO GUIDES US TO TRUTH.
Enjoy Him everyday as you spend time with Him.
For , “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:2).
Blessings!
