“Who is fit to be called chosen ones”
The book of Deutronomy in the “Holy Bible” chapter 7:6, speaks of ‘Chosen people”. Many immediately think of ‘Israel”. In the Old testament, Israel was made of descendants of Jacob(Exodus 1:1, Joshua 13:6), and those who joined Israel through cimcumcision.
Whereas the New testament throws a different light on “Israel”. New Testament Israel consists of those descendents of Jacob, who believed in the Messiah ….with the establishment of the new covenant, physical descent was no longer a determining factor for entrance into Israel. The ones who believed (“believers”) could remain part of Israel.

God’s chosen covenant people are no longer distinguished by racial or territorial characteristics, but exclusively by their “faith” in “Christ”. So all the prophetic plans revealed in the scriptures are not only for the nation Israel but also for present day “Believers”.
The most interesting thing is , there have been umpteen blessings and promises quoted in Holy Bible, on Israel. To quote a few:-
Genesis 12:3—
“I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who dishonour you..”
Psalm 122:6—
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!”
Zechariah12:1-4
“Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples. I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it, will surely hurt themselves. The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God”.
Grace has always been upon Israel.

Jesus took birth in Bethlehem, just 5 miles south of Jerusalem, so Israel has been a focal point thoughout the “Holy Bible”. From the beginning, the story was woven around Israel and freedom of Israelites, because in the later years, the Messiah was to take birth in a small city of the nation, coming into the world humbly “taking birth in a manger”, while no one was aware, and the history was to be re-written. Once Jesus started His ministry at the age of 30, His primary teachings were on knowing how to worship, and love each other as self. Mark 12:31 quotes, “love your neighbour as yourself” . Most of the outcasts of society were found around Him. Luke 19:5 is one such instance.
Jesus was embodiment of kindness. According to Jesus, Only sick people need doctors, not the healthy ones. Christ is the image of invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the “Supreme one”. Inspite of His Holy, blameless and spotless character, He never segregated people on the basis of color of skin or work. Rather all the time was under attack, for keeping company to sinners by the so called religious teachers. Entire history revolves around Christ and His work on Cross, yet we find Him teaching only on “love” and ‘humility’ and a servile nature. Surprising!!

Pomp and show was expected more from HIM, since so many miracles He was performing during His three year ministry on earth, while preparing His twelve disciples before commissioning them with the big work, He was to assign them before ascending to Heaven. He was the “Messiah” the world was waiting for. Finally when He did come humbly, mankind couldn’t handle it.
But I think today’s date, we all need Grace, because almost all the minds are getting distracted in things that makes our minds unhealthy and go far away from His grace.
But when we approach the throne of grace with humility, His grace pours upon us the same way, it pours on His chosen nation “ISRAEL”. “ISRAEL is YOU”, His chosen ones. He is there to bless you, if you would ask..
God doesn’t see how much you got or how you look . He sees your words and your thoughts. And your words and thoughts are pure, only when you walk in ‘love’ and ‘grace’.
Blessings!!
