Who is our friend?
Irony of today is, when we talk/think of friends, we understand our Facebook friends. Our lives do not boast of any more valuable relationships, that we can confidently say are genuine friends, who will stand by us in times of needs. We wish all kinds of anniversaries, trophies and achievements, on social media only. Most hilarious is we find couples and parents chatting on Facebook. Entire conversation between spouses and parents with their children happening on Facebook only😊 It’s considered stylish and trendy to be mushy with our partners on social media, all our private conversations(that were to take place behind closed doors, are open for the entire world to read. In reality, it means that all our relationships are fake with no depth in them. So basically they are putting on a show of a happy couple or family for all to know. That’s why many people fall prone to depression so easily, since no one real is there to confide in.
Who to call a friend?
We cannot trust any on earth. All make friends for gaining from us. All the relationships are of convenience. No matter how much we do…it’s never enough….that’s what humans are all about. Thankless.
In times of need…all disappear….ultimately you are left alone.
I always felt the stories recorded in Bible had a greater purpose. It was more to make us awareabout the truth of humans. The purpose of God’s wordis to heighten our spiritual awareness and make us realize the futility of trusting on human friends. For instance, John 12:13….people spread branches of palm for Jesus, treated Him like a king. Valid reason for doing so, since Lord had raised Lazarus from death. Lord had performed many miracles for people to witness first hand. A little later, in John chapter 19: 15 talks how people screamed for Jesus’s crucifixion. It was fine for them that a criminal named Barabbas( a robber, John 18:40), to be released but not Jesus who did much for them. These are humans…
Truth is ultimately we all are left with God alone to trust….no one is worthy enough to be a friend. I always found people changing within seconds….humans are so temperamental…..one moment they are thickest of friends, next moment sworn enemies.
Let’s see what scriptures has to say on friends.
Proverbs 18:24, “the man of many friends will prove himself a bad friend, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”’.
John 15:13, “’no one has greater love than lay down His own life for his friends.”’
Proverbs 20:6, ‘many a man proclaims his own loving kindness and goodness, but a faithful friend who can find?’’
It’s true, finding a real genuine friend in this world is almost next to impossible. But God’s love? That’s always with you. He walks closer with us than we can ever imagine. If we do not pay heed to His words, it’s easy for us to end up with wrong people, in our plight of looking for friends. We need a discerning spirit always. People come in our lives with wrong motives in their hearts. They act friends, they play with our emotions, but in reality are wolves in a lamb’s garb. It is so important for us forever to be connected to God, His words ( because that’s what makes us wise and sensible to see through people and their motives). People latch on to us only when they know they will gain something out of the relationship. But God’s love is unconditional, ‘’agape love’’.
Proverbs 19:6, ‘’many will entreat the favor of a liberal man and every man is friend to him who gives gifts””.

If you walk closer to Jesus, our lives will be blessed because He will never leave us for a moment.
Jesus is our one and only True friend. God is forever our guide and finisher of our faith. Ourloyalty should be for God alone. When our loyalty shifts towards human friends, who are fellow believers, lost in paganism, for fame and money, that’s when we are kindling God’s wrath.
Numbers 25:1-3 ‘’Israel settled down and remained in Shittim and the people began to play harlot with the daughters of Moab. Anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel”’.
Today we find even believers crowd behaving same way. They go exact opposite to Lord’s commands and ways. In keeping up with our earthly ungodly friendships, we end up losing our closest genuine friend who sticks closer to us than our brothers, and also our souls. We kindle the anger of God.
We seriously need to pray for discernment of spirit.
To be blessed beyond measures all you need to do is, a pure heart. He sees our hearts. If he finds purity in our hearts(though we may have human weaknesses and flaws in us) He will still stick closer to us. God seeks pure hearts, that’s all He requires. Mathew 5:8, psalm 51:6.
God moves on our behalf when we focus only on Him and confide in Him as our only best friend. Worship Him and love Him with all you have. Be blessed😊
Blessings!
